Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What materials can I bring to the recycling centres?
A: The centres accept a wide range of materials including paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, metal, cans, foil, electrical items, bulbs, batteries, garden waste, building materials and general recyclable household items.
Q: Are there any items the centres will not accept?
A: Yes. Petrol, diesel, trade waste and sharps (clinical waste) are not accepted at any of the centres. These must be disposed of through specialist services.
Q: How should I prepare my waste before visiting?
A: Please separate materials before you arrive. Sorting items such as plastics, paper, metal, electricals and garden waste in advance helps speed up unloading and ensures everything is recycled correctly.
Q: How should I dispose of batteries safely?
A: Batteries must NOT be placed in any kerbside bin. They should always be taken to a battery recycling collection point or the dedicated battery containers at the centres. Many household items contain hidden batteries, so please check before disposal.
Q: Do I need a permit to visit the centres?
A: A permit is required if you plan to visit in a vehicle other than a standard car or if you’re bringing large amounts of garden waste. Permits are free and can be requested online, and each one is valid for a single visit within seven days.
