Metal Recycling
One of the easiest materials to recycle is metal. There are many different types of scrap metal that can be recycled. Usually your council or local authority will have skips or bins for unwanted or scrap metal at the local tip or household waste recycling centre.
You can just take your metal items to the tip along with any other rubbish you may have. It is worth contacting the recycling centre near you before you go as not all metal items will be accepted.
Scrap White Goods and Small Appliances
Most local recycle centres will accept white goods and small appliances as scrap metal but not all items will be accepted even though they are made of metal. A dishwasher, washing machine or tumble dryer are probably acceptable as scrap metal but things like fridges or freezers and any other coolers are not accepted at all sites. These white goods items can still be recycled but you may have to arrange a visit at another specialist site.
Scrap Cars and Vehicles
Most council or local authority tips don’t accept cars or vehicles even though there are many metal parts. Many metal recycling companies collect scrap cars for their metal or parts and offer payment for scrap vehicles, search online to find a vehicle recycler near you.
General Scrap Metal Recycling
Your local recycling centre will accept most things metal. They won’t usually expect you to separate your waste metal other than to put metal in the relevant metal bin but if you have the time and space money can be made from recycling scrap metal.
Recycling metal can earn you money if you have a little knowledge on the different types of metal and their value. To keep it simple there are two main categories to consider when sorting your scrap metal for recycling. Ferrous and Non Ferrous, this covers many types of metals but a simple test to carry out at home is with a magnet. If the magnet sticks its Ferrous metal and if doesn’t its Non-Ferrous Metal.
Ferrous metals would cover things like Steel, Tin, Iron etc. and Non Ferrous would cover metals like Copper, Brass, and Lead etc. and generally speaking Non Ferrous metal has a higher value when selling or recycling scrap metals. Shop around among the many metal recycling merchants for the best price.
