Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What types of household waste can I bring to the recycling centre?
A: You can bring most common household items, including garden waste, cardboard, small appliances, furniture, scrap metal, batteries, and textiles. Fridges, freezers, and TVs are also accepted, but commercial units are not.
Q: Are there limits on certain waste types?
A: Yes, items such as engine oil, cooking oil, and household chemicals are limited to five litres per vehicle per visit. Only small amounts of rubble, soil, or plasterboard — around one dustbin full per day — are accepted.
Q: Do I need a permit to use the site?
A: You’ll need a free permit if you visit in a van, a 4×4 classed as a light goods vehicle, or if you’re using a large trailer up to 3.6 metres long. Cars and small trailers under 1.8 metres don’t require one.
Q: What vehicles are not allowed at the recycling centre?
A: Commercial vehicles, flat-bed pick-ups, and any vehicle over 2 metres high (including roof boxes or bars) are not permitted. Overloaded trailers and business waste are also not accepted.
Q: I have a disability adapted vehicle that’s over 2 metres high. Can I still visit?
A: Yes, in most cases you can. Please contact the council before applying for your permit so arrangements can be made for vehicles that exceed the height limit due to adaptations.
