Do children need to stay inside the vehicle while on site?
Yes. Both HRCs are busy, active environments, and for safety reasons all children and pets must remain in the vehicle at all times during your visit.
Do I need to sort my recycling before arriving at the HRC?
Visitors are asked to separate their materials into clear categories before arriving. This makes it easier to unload, speeds up your visit, and helps staff direct your items efficiently.
How do I bring asbestos to the site safely?
You must phone ahead before bringing asbestos. Call 0203 567 6470 (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm) or 0203 567 6482 (Sat–Sun, 9am–5pm). Further safety guidance is available on the council’s asbestos information page.
Are trailers or commercial-style vehicles allowed into the HRCs?
Trailers and commercial-type vehicles require a valid e-permit. Some vehicles are not allowed at all, even with a permit, so always check the approved vehicle list before visiting or hiring a vehicle.
Can I bring items for reuse to Hortonwood or Halesfield?
Yes. If you have items suitable for reuse, speak to a member of staff. Both sites work with local charities to pass items on, but electrical items cannot be accepted for reuse.
