Q: Who is allowed to use the recycling centres?
A: Anyone living in the Bournemouth, Christchurch or Poole area can access the local recycling centres. Some Dorset residents may also be eligible, but they can only visit in a standard car and must check the Dorset Council website for confirmation.
Q: What proof of address do I need to bring with me?
A: Visitors should bring identification that shows their current address within BCP, such as a driving licence, a Council Tax bill, or a recent household utility bill.
Q: Are there restrictions on vans and trailers using the site?
A: Yes. Only smaller trailers up to 6’ x 4’ are allowed, and vans must either have a valid permit or be hired for no more than three days. Larger vans, trailers towed by vans or pick-ups, tipper trucks, tractors and similar vehicles cannot use the centres.
Q: Is there a limit on how much DIY waste I can dispose of for free?
A: Yes. Households can dispose of a small weekly allowance of DIY waste at no charge. This is limited to either two small bags of material or one larger item. Extra DIY waste can be accepted but will be charged, and waste must come from minor household projects carried out by the resident.
Q: Can pedestrians bring waste into the recycling centre?
A: Pedestrians and cyclists may enter the site after checking in at the security gate, but they must bring proof of BCP residency. Waste must be carried by hand and limited to what fits in a rucksack or bin bag. Visitors must not park nearby and walk waste in from a vehicle.
