Overview

Scottish Borders Council calls its seven sites Community Recycling Centres: Duns, Eyemouth, Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso, Peebles (Eshiels) and Selkirk. Our seven associated records cover the full current network with no additional or duplicate site. “Eshiels” is the council’s site name for the Peebles facility; the listings use shorter town-based Recycling Centre names.

Book trailers and vehicles over two tonnes

Book before using a trailer of any size or a vehicle over two tonnes gross vehicle weight. Wheelchair-adapted vehicles have an exemption. Check the council’s people-carrier and campervan conditions rather than assuming the same rules apply to every load.

Upholstered seating has separate booking rules

Most upholstered-seating loads need a booking. Cars taking these items to Easter Langlee are an exception; bean bags, floor cushions and sofa cushions also have different arrangements. Check the item-specific instructions and tell staff what you are bringing.

Business loads need a trade-access permit

Businesses have a separate paid Community Recycling Centre trade-permit service. Check the permit category, accepted materials, eligible vehicle and trade opening hours. The household booking service does not replace the business permit.

About this category

About Scottish Borders Council

Scottish Borders Council operates seven recycling centres for residents to responsibly dispose of household waste. If you’re bringing a trailer or large vehicle, you must book a slot in advance. Waste should be sorted and presented in manageable amounts for quick unloading. Centres may close temporarily at short notice while skips are emptied. At Eshiels, please avoid queuing beyond the ‘no queuing’ signage. The Council thanks residents for their cooperation and reminds everyone to treat staff respectfully.
