About Ards and North Down Borough Council
Ards and North Down Borough Council operates eight recycling centres, open exclusively to residents disposing of household waste. Entry requires proof of address, such as a driving licence or recent bill, along with a valid booking reference. All waste must be sorted in advance, with recyclables separated from general rubbish. Mixed waste or recyclable items placed in landfill skips will not be accepted. Visitors can consult the council’s waste guide or use the Bin-Ovation app for detailed disposal information.

📱 Two Ways to Book
Digital Booking: Use the Bin-Ovation App or the Council website. You'll need your registration, waste categories, and address.
Phone Booking: Call 0300 013 3333 (Opt 1) between 09:00 and 16:30, Monday to Friday.
🛑 Mandatory: Proof of Residency
Entry will be refused without your Booking Reference and one of the following:
- Driving Licence or Rates Bill
- Utility Bill or Bank Statement
Unique Site Restrictions & Rules
- The "Balloo-Only" Rule: Household DIY rubble is only accepted at the Balloo Recycling Centre (limited to a single-axle trailer load).
- Oil Tank Disposal: Must be completely drained and cut in half before arrival.
- Soil Ban: As of 2024, large quantities of soil are no longer accepted at any of the 8 Borough sites.
- Vehicle Limits: Large vans and double-axle trailers are limited to 6 visits per year.
- Sorting Policy: Mixed waste is not allowed; you will be redirected to a sorting bay if your items aren't separated.
Borough Pro-Tip: Staff monitor landfill skips closely. If you are seen throwing recyclables (like cardboard or plastic) into general waste, you will be stopped and asked to sort them.
