Bromley Farm (Upper Cumberworth) Recycling Centre Review

★★★★☆

Located off Barnsley Road in the scenic Denby Dale area, the Bromley Farm site is a vital facility for residents in South Kirklees. It is widely praised for its exceptionally helpful staff and well-maintained layout.

This is a modern split-level site, which makes unloading heavy items much easier. A unique feature of this location is the "Revive" reuse container, where you can donate small, functional household items to charity rather than throwing them away. Note that, unlike the larger Huddersfield sites, this location does not accept soil, rubble, or plasterboard.

Important for Visitors: Due to recent council changes, Bromley Farm is now closed every Wednesday and Thursday. You must have a Kirklees Digital Permit registered to your vehicle for entry. The site is a favorite for locals, but queues can form quickly on Saturday afternoons!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do I need a permit to bring my vehicle to the recycling centre?

A: Yes. All visitors must have a valid vehicle permit before using the site. This helps ensure only eligible vehicles access the centres.

Q: Can I still enter the site if I arrive right at closing time?

A: No. Visitors will not be admitted once closing time has passed. It's best to arrive early so you have enough time to queue and unload safely.

Q: Why do the gates close before the official closing time?

A: For safety and clearing procedures, gates may shut up to 20 minutes earlier than the published closing time. This ensures the site can be emptied and secured properly.

Q: Do opening hours change during the year?

A: Yes. The centres run shorter hours in winter and extended hours in summer. Opening times change when the clocks move forward or back with the seasonal time shift.

Q: What types of waste are not allowed at the recycling centre?

A: Only household waste is accepted. Anything linked to business activity, rental properties, paid work, or commercial premises must be taken to a licensed commercial waste site instead.
