Book qualifying van or trailer visits

Cars without trailers do not need a booking. Vans and trailers must book at the sites named in the council’s booking list, at least 48 hours ahead. The limit is one booking per vehicle per week, Sunday to Saturday.

Check the strict vehicle-weight limit

Vehicles with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 3,500kg or more are not allowed. Check the manufacturer’s identification plate, rather than the vehicle’s empty weight. Tippers, flatbed trucks and plant vehicles are also excluded.

Do not bring building waste in a van or trailer

Building and renovation waste can only be brought in a car, subject to site acceptance. Restricted van or trailer loads include soil, rubble, plasterboard, bathroom fittings, kitchen units and construction timber. Mixed loads containing those items will be refused.

The Highland Council runs 21 recycling centres, offering residents places to dispose of household waste responsibly. Several sites also have reuse cabins or areas, where unwanted household items can be donated for others to use. Waste should be brought in manageable amounts so it can be deposited quickly. Recycling centres may occasionally close at short notice while skips are emptied. We thank residents for their cooperation and ask that staff are always treated with respect.
