Walking and cycling have different rules

Small amounts carried in on foot do not need a booking; use the marked paths. Bicycle visits do require an appointment, as do cars and vans. Check the relevant access conditions before travelling.

Arrive within the 30-minute appointment

Appointments last 30 minutes. Arrive no later than ten minutes before the slot ends to allow time to unload. If the hire or car-club registration is unknown, the form accepts hire van, hire car or car club as appropriate.

Check the restricted vehicle and load rules

Van and trailer users need the appropriate documents and must use the allocated site and times. Remove personal data from devices before recycling them, and bring only loads you can unload yourself.

The City of Edinburgh Council operates three recycling centres for residents. Cars, bicycles and vans must book an appointment in advance. You do not need to book when arriving on foot with small amounts of materials; use the marked paths. Only City of Edinburgh residents are eligible to make a booking. On arrival, you may have to wait before gaining entry. Staff cannot assist with unloading, so only bring items you can manage yourself. For safety reasons, children and animals must remain inside your vehicle at all times.
