Overview

South Lanarkshire Council’s current network has six Household Waste and Recycling Centres: Carluke, East Kilbride, Hamilton and Blantyre, Larkhall, Strathaven, and Cambuslang and Rutherglen. Our six records cover all six physical sites. The Cambuslang and Rutherglen record appears here as Eastfield, reflecting a council naming difference rather than a missing or additional centre.

Choose the right vehicle slot

All vehicles must book. Car slots last 15 minutes and van slots 30 minutes. Each trip and vehicle needs its own booking, using the registration that will arrive. Bring the hire agreement if using a rented vehicle.

Some bulky items need a larger site

Larkhall and Strathaven no longer accept mattresses, couches or other upholstered seating. Use Carluke, East Kilbride, Hamilton and Blantyre, or Cambuslang and Rutherglen instead, or arrange a bulk uplift.

Check renovation and hazardous-waste rules

The council excludes home or garden renovation loads and waste from hired tradespeople from the household service. Gypsum and plasterboard have dedicated skips; asbestos has separate arrangements at East Kilbride only. Check the specific material guidance before loading.

About South Lanarkshire Council

South Lanarkshire Council operates six recycling centres for residents to safely dispose of household waste. All visits must be booked in advance, and proof of residency may be required on arrival. These sites are strictly for South Lanarkshire residents, and commercial or trade waste is not accepted free of charge. The centres promote safe recycling and waste management, and smoking is strictly prohibited on site to protect both public safety and the wellbeing of staff and visitors.
