Overview

North Ayrshire Council’s official network has four Household Waste Recycling Centres: Bartonholm in Irvine, Kilbirnie, Largs and Brodick on Arran. This page has three associated listings for Irvine, Kilbirnie and Largs, so coverage is incomplete: Brodick is missing. The Irvine listing uses the town name rather than the council’s Bartonholm name; use the individual records and official guidance before travelling.

Book the correct site and slot length

Visits must be booked. The council allows bookings up to 14 days ahead, with same-day slots when available. Car slots are 10 minutes; vans and trailers have 20 minutes. Bring the requested proof of residency.

Mainland permits and Arran arrangements differ

Eligible household vans and small trailers need the mainland tip-permit arrangements before booking. The free annual mainland permit allows 12 visits. Arran has separate arrangements, so check the correct service rather than applying one permit rule everywhere.

Check the centre’s closed days

Irvine, Kilbirnie, Largs and Brodick have different timetables. Kilbirnie closes on Mondays and Tuesdays; Largs closes on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Brodick has a shorter Saturday session.
