Overview

Midlothian Council’s two household Recycling Centres are represented here: Stobhill in Newtongrange and Penicuik on Bellman’s Road. The council publishes separate location and site-layout guidance for each facility, so the individual listing is useful when choosing between them. Together, these listings cover the council’s two-site network.

Bulky loads must go to Stobhill

Use Stobhill for mattresses, sofas, upholstered seating, vans, trailers and loads larger than a car boot with the back seats up. Check the centre layout before travelling and bring proof of identity and Midlothian residence.

Book vans and trailers separately

Ordinary car visits do not use an appointment system. Vans and trailers must book Stobhill, with appointments available up to ten days ahead and on the day if available. Each trip needs its own booking.

Six annual visits for restricted vehicles

Own or borrowed vans, trailers and larger vehicles normally have six visits per calendar year. Vans towing trailers are not accepted. Last entry is 30 minutes before closing. Check the separate per-load limits for appliances, furniture and rubble.

About Midlothian Council

Midlothian Council runs two recycling centres for household waste disposal. Before arriving, sort your items into separate materials to speed up the process. On site, staff regulate entry and vehicle numbers, so please follow their guidance respectfully. Stay inside your car until ready to unload, with no more than two people leaving the vehicle. Children and pets must remain inside. Staff cannot help unload, and pedestrian entry is strictly prohibited.
