Overview

Medway Council’s current directory lists three household waste and recycling centres: Hoath Way and Capstone in Gillingham, plus Cuxton near Rochester. Our three associated records cover all three official sites. The council uses both “waste and recycling centre” and HWRC terminology; recycling points are a separate directory category and are not combined with this network.

Booking and proof of address

Capstone, Cuxton and Hoath Way are for residents who pay Council Tax to Medway Council. Book every visit and bring your booking reference and proof of address. Each booking allows one trip.

Car appointments can be booked up to seven days ahead and at least four hours in advance. Small privately owned vans need at least four days’ notice and can be booked up to nine days ahead. Phone bookings are available on 01634 333 333 for people without email or internet access.

Small vans and site choice

Small van bookings are available at Capstone and Cuxton on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Hoath Way does not accept van bookings. Select the correct vehicle category: arriving in a van with a car booking can result in refusal. Check the council’s full vehicle rules before booking.

Reuse donations and business waste

Good-quality electrical items, small furniture, bicycles and toys can be donated during a centre visit for Medway’s partner charity, Wisdom Hospice. Keep donations separate and ask staff where to place them. Business waste, including waste from landlords, is excluded from all three household centres.

About this category

About Medway Council

Medway Council operates three recycling centres where residents can responsibly dispose of household waste. When visiting, please organise your recycling into separate material types before arrival. All items must be placed in the correct containers provided on site, and any bags used to carry recyclables should be disposed of separately. Mixed recycling bags are not accepted. For kerbside collections, plastic bottles, tubs, and trays should be placed in the white recycling bag.
