Overview

Luton Council’s official Tidy Tip network has two household-waste sites: Eaton Green Road and Progress Way. Both are represented on this page. The council calls these facilities Tidy Tips rather than recycling centres and provides separate guidance for local residents, accepted household waste and site access; use the individual listing and current council information before travelling.

Arrange the right vehicle permit

Family cars do not need a vehicle permit. Vans, pick-ups, campervans, minibuses and qualifying trailers do. Permits are free, cover one visit within 30 days and are limited to 12 per household per year. Apply early enough for processing and postal delivery.

Access and unloading

Walking and cycling entry is not permitted. Sort the load, wear closed-toe shoes and arrange your own unloading help: staff cannot remove waste from your vehicle. Hire-vehicle users need the hire agreement and proof of address. Check trailer size and axle restrictions before travelling.

Reuse before disposal

Suitable items can be donated at either tidy tip. Progress Way has a reuse shop for browsing and purchases. Check the donation list and shop opening arrangements before taking goods that someone else could use.

Luton Tidy Tip Essential Guide

Luton Council provides two main facilities for residents: Eaton Green Road and Progress Way. These "Tidy Tips" are strictly for domestic waste from your own home.

  • Entry Requirements: Bring photo ID AND a recent utility bill to prove residency.
  • DIY Limits: There is a strict limit of 6 DIY items per month.
  • Van Permits: Vans and qualifying trailers require a permit applied for in advance. Approved permits are posted to residents; allow time for processing and delivery.

Pro Tip: Arrive at least 15 minutes before closing in a car with a small load, or at least 30 minutes before closing in a van with a permit.
