Leeds recycling centre locations

Leeds City Council operates household waste recycling centres at:

• Kirkstall
• Meanwood
• Middleton
• Otley (Ellar Ghyll)
• Pudsey
• Seacroft
• Wetherby (Thorp Arch)
• Yeadon

These sites are for residents within the Leeds City Council boundary disposing of household waste. Individual opening hours, facilities and accepted materials can vary by site, so visitors should check the relevant centre information before travelling.

Using Leeds recycling centres

Leeds household waste recycling centres are for residents who live within the Leeds City Council boundary and need to dispose of household waste. Visitors can use the sites by car or bicycle. Larger vehicles, vans and some trailers may require a permit.

Permits and vehicle rules

Cars normally do not need a permit, but some vans, pick-ups, minibuses, campervans, vehicles with business markings and cars towing trailers require one. Vehicle size limits also apply, and some larger vans, pickups and trailers are not allowed at household recycling centres.

Eligible residents can receive up to 12 permits for qualifying vehicles. Borrowed, company and hired vehicles have separate limits and requirements, so residents should check the current Leeds City Council permit guidance before travelling.

DIY waste

Small amounts of household DIY waste are accepted free of charge, subject to Leeds City Council limits. Free disposal is limited to 4 visits per month per household, with either:

• up to 2 × 50-litre bags per visit, or
• 1 large item up to 2 metres by 0.75 metres per visit.

Limits apply to materials including rubble, hardcore, soil, ceramics, plasterboard and tyres. Residents with larger quantities should check the current council guidance and make alternative disposal arrangements where required.

Reuse options

Leeds supports reuse through Revive Leeds. Reuse shops operate at the Kirkstall and Seacroft household recycling centres, where suitable reusable household items can be donated rather than thrown away.

Trade and business waste

Leeds household waste recycling centres are for household waste only. Waste from businesses, landlords, property developers or tradespeople working at a property must not be taken to household recycling centres.

Leeds City Council operates separate paid waste transfer facilities at Kirkstall and Seacroft for appropriate business, trade and larger waste disposal.
