Booking a Dorset recycling centre visit

Dorset Council currently requires bookings at four Household Recycling Centres: Dorchester, Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Wimborne. Visitors arriving at those four sites on foot or by bicycle must also book.

If you are taking DIY waste to any Dorset Council Household Recycling Centre, you must make a booking before visiting.

DIY waste and charges

Dorset households can currently dispose of up to 16 bags of DIY waste over a maximum of 4 visits within a 4-week period. A bag is based on a standard 25-litre rubble bag, with larger individual items counting towards the allowance according to their size.

Charges apply when the free DIY allowance is exceeded. DIY waste produced by commercial activity, including work carried out by a builder or tradesperson on your behalf, is not accepted as household DIY waste.

Visitors from outside the Dorset Council area

People who live outside the Dorset Council area can use Dorset Household Recycling Centres for household waste, but must book online and pay a non-refundable £8.50 fee for each visit.

Different charging arrangements also apply when non-Dorset residents dispose of DIY waste, so check the council’s current guidance before travelling.

About this category

About Dorset Council

Dorset Council operates 10 recycling centres, providing convenient facilities for residents to dispose of a wide range of household waste responsibly. To manage site access, vehicle and trailer permits are required for certain larger vehicles and trailers, ensuring fair and safe use of the centres. Some items, such as soil, rubble, and plasterboard, may incur household recycling centre charges. These measures help support efficient site management while encouraging responsible recycling and waste reduction across the county.
