Overview

Cheshire East Council’s current permanent network has four Household Waste Recycling Centres at Alsager, Crewe, Knutsford and Macclesfield. Its separate mobile HWRC service currently lists Congleton, Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Poynton and Middlewich. Our associated records include the four permanent sites plus Congleton, Poynton and Middlewich; Bollington is not on the council’s current permanent or mobile lists.

Check current booking requirements

The council has announced changes to its weekend-only booking system. Check the current requirements for your chosen centre and day before travelling. Book up to 30 days ahead through the waste portal, register your property and use the booked vehicle. Bring the confirmation code and cancel an appointment you cannot use.

Vehicle permits and trailer sizes

Eligible vans, pick-ups, commercial-type 4x4s and trailers between 1.5m and 3.5m internal length require a household-waste permit. It covers six visits over six months. Only Crewe and Macclesfield can accommodate trailers over 2.5m; trailers over 3.5m are excluded.

Mobile services have separate arrangements

Mobile services require their own booking and accept cars only. Check the current location, date and accepted materials rather than travelling to an old permanent-site address. If you need to visit a permanent centre on foot, contact that site first to arrange safe access.

Cheshire East Council operates several household waste recycling centres for residents to dispose of unwanted items responsibly. Only household waste is accepted at these sites, and proof of residency may be requested when visiting. Commercial, trade, or business waste is not permitted. Residents are encouraged to sort and separate materials before arrival to speed up the process and maximise recycling. Restrictions apply to certain items such as asbestos, tyres, and large amounts of DIY waste.
