Residency and visiting

Buckinghamshire residents can use the council’s Household Recycling Centres for household waste and should bring proof of their address, such as a driving licence or Council Tax bill.

General car visits do not normally require an appointment. Visitors who do not live in Buckinghamshire can still use the centres, but access charges apply. Separate charges can also apply when the free DIY allowance is exceeded.

DIY waste permits

A DIY-waste permit is required to use the free household DIY allowance.

Each permit allows either:

  • up to 2 bags of DIY waste of 50 litres each, or
  • 1 large DIY item up to 2m × 0.75m × 0.7m

A permit is valid for one visit within seven days. Additional DIY waste can be chargeable.

Vehicle and walk-in permits

A vehicle permit is required for specified vehicles including pick-up vans, minibuses, flatbed trucks and certain larger trailers. Visitors accessing a recycling centre on foot also need a walk-in permit.

Some vehicles are not permitted, including vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, vehicles with more than four wheels, oversized trailers, vehicles with tippers or tail lifts, tractors and horseboxes.

About Buckinghamshire Council

There are 10 Buckinghamshire Council Recycling Centres, offering residents safe and convenient disposal of household waste and recycling. A permit is required to dispose of DIY waste, as this is considered non-household. If you are visiting in a van, minibus, or truck, you must apply for a vehicle waste permit before arrival. Walk-in visitors are also required to apply for a waste permit. To help reduce waste and support local charities, residents are encouraged to donate suitable items for reuse.
