Register before visiting Barkers Lane

Since 1 October 2026, household visitors must register their vehicle before visiting Barkers Lane. Registration is free and valid immediately. Household visits still do not need an appointment. Up to two vehicles can be registered to a home address; the entrance camera checks the number plate.

Registration periods and hired vehicles

Car and pick-up registration lasts 24 months; van registration lasts six months. Hire vehicles must be registered for each day of use. Bring the hire agreement and proof of address, and check the current hire-visit allowance before arranging the vehicle.

Entry & Appointment Requirements

  • Household Residents: No appointment is required for household visits. Register your vehicle before visiting Barkers Lane, then visit during opening hours with proof of your Bedford Borough address.
  • Business & Traders: Mandatory booking is required. Traders must book an appointment for the paid disposal service.

Opening Times & Peak Periods

  • Standard Hours: 9am – 5pm, seven days a week (Last entry 4:50pm).
  • Summer Saturdays: 9am – 7pm (1 April to 30 September only).
  • Peak Times: Friday to Sunday mornings are busiest. You may be turned away if queues exceed site capacity.
Commonly Accepted: Garden Waste, Electronics (WEEE), Cardboard, Wood, Textiles, Batteries, Paint, Cooking Oil, and Metal.
