Argyll & Bute HRC: Visitor Safety & Material Guide
Due to the local geography, operating hours and accepted materials vary significantly between sites, particularly on the islands of Mull, Coll, Islay, and Tiree.
🛋️ The Upholstered Furniture Rule (POPs)
New regulations require all upholstered seating (sofas, armchairs, cushions, beanbags) to be handled separately:
- Designated Zones: These items MUST go into the specific "Upholstered Furniture" area.
- Damage Control: If an item is torn, you must secure the tears with tape before arrival to prevent chemical leakage.
🌍 Island vs. Mainland Access
⚠️ Hazardous & Specialty Waste
- Asbestos Disposal: Strictly regulated. You must double-wrap it in UN-approved packaging (red inner, clear outer).
- Tiree Commercial Tickets: Businesses on Tiree must pre-pay for a "Waste Dump Ticket" online before visiting Gott Bay.
- Charity Partnerships: Westlands (Bute) and Glengorm (Mull) accept clean furniture and working electrics for reuse.
⏰ Important Timing Tips
- Last Entry: Gates close strictly 15 minutes before the official closing time.
- Holiday Closures: All sites are closed on Dec 25–26 and Jan 1–2.
