It is important to recycle garden chemicals in a safe and correct way. Garden chemicals that we use on a daily basis often have some quite harmful chemicals in their ingredients. Garden chemicals like pesticides and weed killer should never be poured down the drain, this can cause serious environmental issues to wildlife and humans once these chemicals enter the water course.
Empty bottles and sprays can be disposed of in the standard household recycling stream. Old bottles or containers that have unused garden chemicals still in should not be put into the general waste or household recycling bin. Pesticides and fertilisers are considered hazardous waste and need to be processed safely.
Some council or local authority household recycling sites will have special containers where garden chemicals can be dropped off for safe disposal or recycling. Check with the site near you to be sure they accept garden chemicals. When you take them to the site make sure they are sealed and safe to handle for you and site staff.
