Carpet recycling is not something we often consider. Most people don’t even realise that you can recycle old carpets but they can be processed sometimes depending on what they are made of.
Carpets and rugs are made up of different materials but the fibres can be reused to make new carpets or rugs, other materials found within the carpets base may not be recyclable so it depends on what type of carpet you have to recycle.
Carpet can be put into general waste but the better solution is to take your unwanted carpets and rugs along to your council or authority household recycling site in your area. Here you will find a bin or skip designated to carpet and rug recycling, usually site staff can advise you if the carpet you have is recyclable or if it is general waste.
